Cat Urine All over Your House? We Have the Fix.

If you live with cats, you have to deal with their urine.

It's not one of the most pleasant aspects of cat ownership. (If we had to choose those, we'd definitely pick slow eye blinks and muffin-making.)

Still, taking care of your cat's waste has to be done and done right in order to avoid problems, so this issue of the Mewsletter is devoted to all things cat urine.

Cats need to scratch on posts and pads they love.

If you suspect that your cat has urinated somewhere other than his box, the first thing you need to do is find the urine and clean it up. That can be a bit tricky, so follow the tips in "Detecting and Cleaning Urine Stains" to help you.

If you know your cat isn't using the litter box, take the time to read carefully through "Cat Not Using Litter Box? Inappropriate Urination in Cats" for a wealth of information on why cats stop using their boxes and how to get them back on track.

Do you know the proper way to clean a litter box? If you don't, you may run into some trouble with your cat choosing to go in your clean laundry or the back of your closet instead. Beef up on your litter box cleaning skills here: "How to Clean the Litter Box."

Make sure your cat is spayed or neutered, so you'll be less likely to have to deal with "Cat Spraying: Feline Marking Behavior."

Obtain the best tools for maintaining a litter box worthy of feline royalty. We love the Cats Rule Litter Mat, which comes in two materials and several colors and patterns. It's big, so it will fit under the litter box and capture anything that comes out along with your cat, keeping it there instead of allowing it to travel throughout your home.

The Purr-fect Paws Litter Mat is another great choice, with hundreds of ridges and divots to catch wayward litter.

A good litter scooper is a must-have item in your litter box care kit. We love the Durascoop. It's heavy-duty, won't rust, has an ergonomic handle to reduce wrist strain, and has the perfect edge for scraping the sides and bottom of the litter box.

Cats need stress relief, or they may develop unwanted behaviors like eliminating outside of the box. Prey-mimicking toys allow them to exercise their predator instincts and diffuse stress. We love the Cat Catcher Wand Toy for some crazy bird-hunting feline fun and Zanies Hypno Mice for some rodent-chasing stress-busting.

If you're still not sure why your cat isn't using the litter box or what to do about it, we've got you covered. Take this interactive quiz: "Quiz: Inappropriate Urination in Cats" to narrow down the issue.

We like it when you talk back.
